Gee, I've only been back a week and my attitude has taken a nose-dive. I was hoping my little reprieve from my life and job would carry me through the summer. Nope. The job is boring and frustrating again. The rest of my life is not so bad but it could be a whole lot better if I could download those songs I bought from Amazon. That is so frustrating. I am waiting until 8pm for my night minutes to kick in so I can call their customer service.Good things: -I caulked my loose window in my front RV door. ... ( more)

I must be doing something wrong. Downloading songs is supposed to be so simple and easy...at least that's how they make it sound. I have 2 gift cards from my birthday. One itunes and the other for Amazon. After spending many hours downloading the itunes player, figuring out how to search for songs and finally finding one to download, I couldn't figure out how to redeem my card. The itunes card says "click itunes store, click redeem". That's not a choice on my screen. The help section said, click itunes store, then account. Nope. Finally after many frustrating attempts I ... I'm obsessing again. I made a spreadsheet with different low budget options and then matched the lowest dollar per hour job that could earn enough for that budget. Actually, my goal is to have my rental income (or home equity money if I sell the house) produce enough to cover my minimum budget. Then the part time job that I get will be for spending money. Health insurance is a big part of the budget. I have $150 budgeted for a high deductible health savings account. I don't have anything in the budget to actually fund the health savings account ... Is there ever such thing as a problem-free month? Probably not. First, the solar light started blinking. On/off, on/off. Over and over. That's not what it is supposed to do. I only got it a couple of months ago so hopefully there is a warranty. Now...where did I put that receipt? This problem was actually a carry-over from last month. I just unplugged it. Now I need to deal with it.This morning the bathroom light started to flicker. It is a florescent bulb so it will go out soon. ... ( more)

This had better save me a LOT of money. I was late getting to the meeting point. I under-estimated how long it would take to get there. I need to leave about 5 minutes earlier at least. Luckily I saw her car zip by when I was at the light so she was late too. We took her car. I have a truck she has a small car. We were going to switch off driving but I asked her what her miles per gallon are and she said 38. Uh...I think I ... ( more)

I love my truck and I love my freedom. I get car sick easily and I get nervous driving with other people in the car. This is not an ideal carpooling scenerio. Not only that but the person I am carpooling with often stays to work late but gas prices have made me consider it.I haven't carpooled yet because the coworker that lives closest to me goes in to work 2 hours before me and only leave 1/2 hour before me. If he left 2 hours before me I would gladly change my schedule but I'm ... ( more)

My new-to-me Mp3 player, which was free from a friend, has earphones that always fall out of my ears. I imagine that they once had foam pads on them. I thought I was going to have to buy new ones although that isn't in my budget. One ear stays in ok but the right one always falls out. It's annoying when I go for a walk. Anyway, I was getting on the plane last week and there was a little basket of complimentary earphones. The airline was ExpressJet. I really like them but unfortunately they are discontinuing the flight I ... ( more)

This is just a quick update because I have to run to do my house-sitting/doggy sitting duties for the last day. It was nice to have long showers and laundry but I will be glad to be back in my own place tomorrow.I checked on my plants today. All the tomatoes are gone. That was one hungry bird. I didn't have a problem with birds last year. Next year...bird-netting! I can't believe I didn't even get one tomato or zucchini. I gave my boss 2 zucchini plants that I started so hopefully he will bring me some.I got my rent ... ( more)

My little garden suffered while I was gone. My neighbor was supposed to be looking out for it but I guess she got busy and missed a day or two. The temps were over 100 so a day or two of no water took its tole. I didn't get a chance to eat my first zucchini. I thought another week of growing time wouldn't hurt it. When I got back it had shriveled. Too bad. The plants are struggling and probably won't produce any more. The tomatoes were eaten by birds. There are 4 left that might still ripen but ... ( more)

I'm back! It was a very nice trip. Everything was green and the weather was nice. I had a whole week to visit with family and no one was sick. I've stopped by my place briefly to check on things and water the plants then I am off to house sit for a friend. I'm bringing my hair dye since I will have plenty of water available for showers. Tomorrow I will come back here and get my sheets and blankets to wash at her house. That's exciting for me :)Unfortunately, I forgot ... ( more)

I'm off to Spokane for a week. It rained last night (yea, more water!) here in Arizona and reminded me that I need to pack a jacket. After 100 degree temps last week I had put all of my long sleeved things in to storage. I am flying non-stop on Express Jet. They just started offering non-stop flights last November. They were cheaper than anyone else too. This morning on the radio I heard that they are discontinuing their flights to Spokane as well as some other destinations. Bummer. Now the flight will take a couple of hours longer and ... ( more)

Someone I used to work with mentioned that they might be hiring another person for a job that I used to do. He wanted to know if I would be interested if the job materialized. At first I thought maybe. I would make at least $5 an hour more and get 3 day weekends. I used to LOVE 3 day weekends, although sometimes I didn't have anything to do and it could get boring. I almost want to say yes just for the 3 day weekends.$5/hour more would come out to about $685/month after taxes. ... ( more)

The last time I went to Spokane I got the stomach flu. I am optimistic this time. Anything is better than the stomach flu. 2 more days of work and I will be free for a whole week. Yea!!! I've been eating bagels for breakfast and spaghetti and salad for lunch for 3 days now but surprisingly, I am not sick of it yet. That's good because I have 2 more days to go. I don't think I will have to throw out any perishable food. Oh, I had better freeze that milk. I forgot about that. Nope, just checked. ... ( more)

I should have thought of this last year before my plants burned up in the May/June heat.I used the old tarp that was covering one of my water tanks. It's not pretty but it was free because I recycled something I was going to throw away. I was able to attach it to the green house and the fence which was very convenient since I didn't have to try to construct some sort of structure. Everything I build on my own gets blown away by the wind, and it's very windy out here. I added a piece of tarp on ... ( more)

Where's my stimulus money? I used direct deposit to pay my taxes and according to the payment schedule, I should have received my money May 9th. I feel so un-loved by the government. I even got one of those letters that told me to expect something. I check my bank account every day but still nothing. I even checked the IRS website to track my payment but it said "no info available". I also noticed that although the site says my payment will arrive "no later than" May 9th, it also says "Please allow 2 weeks from the date shown ... ( more)

Since I am going on vacation in a week, I need to plan my meals so that I finish off the food that will spoil. I don't know why I bought a whole head of lettuce last week. Now I'm going to have to eat salads every day. Salads are good for me so it's not really a bad thing. I just don't like taking them to work. I will this week though. I opened a jar of spaghetti sauce too so I guess it's going to be spaghetti and salads this week. What else do I have...Cheerios or bagels? If ... ( more)

Well, they are new to me. I went to the thrift store again. I actually went there for something else and I found out that my favorite thrift store had disappeared. No relocation sign or anything. Maybe I just didn't see it. So, I went to my next favorite thrift store a block away. They didn't have what I was looking for but I decided to look through the clothes just in case. This thrift store is expensive to me, $4 for shirts. I only found a couple items that were half off. Unfortunately, the shorts were a little too ... ( more)

It's not much of a harvest. So far only 3 pea pods and one zucchini but every edible item is a small victory for me. Sadly, only one pea plant survived. I should plant more. I started these fellas early in the green house and then moved them outside as soon as it got too hot for them inside. It is a lot of work to water them everyday. They will only need water until it starts to rain but that is still a month away. This next month is crucial. It is supposed to be 100 degrees next ... ( more)

Or maybe not. Since my cell phone is my only phone I have been going over my allotted minutes lately. Extra minutes cost 40 cents! I either need to stop answering my phone or get more minutes. I don't want to be completely anti-social so I looked in to upgrading my phone plan with Verizon. Verizon just sent me a coupon for a free month of service if I signed up for another year long contract so I did. Now I am regretting it. My plan is 300 minutes and 3000 night and weekend minutes for $35. Nights start at ... ( more)

The weatherman did not say it was going to rain today but I am glad he was wrong! I came home to wet streets and water in my tanks. I have a window-less office so I didn't even know it had rained. It's not a lot of water, only 60 gallons, but if it doesn't rain until mid-July then I think I can make it with the water I have. I might even be able to do laundry and water my little plants (they will be happy). There is a chance of rain tomorrow too but I don't want to ... ( more)

Frugal (or cheap) things I did today:Brought leftovers for lunch.Brought my own drink in my own bottle.Washed a ziploc bag.Repaired my broken nail with super glue and tissue.Went for a walk.Took a super-quick shower.Cooked pasta for the next 4 lunches.Used recycled water for my plants.Got my news online instead of buying paper. That's about it for the daily stuff. The long term list would be...Rented out my house and moved in to an RV.Collected rainwater for showers, laundry and plants.Making accelerated mortgage payments to pay off my mortgage early.Do without cable or satellite.Use only a cell phone. (although I went over on ... ( more)

I'm getting my lunch ready for another work week. I'm not looking forward to the week but it is better than being unemployed. Everyday that I go to work I am one day closer to succeeding with my retirement plan. Last week, when I was playing with my mortgage spreadsheet, I figured out that I could pay it off in a year and a half if I sold off my stocks, RV, sold most of my possessions and used my emergency fund. I would be broke but free from my mortgage. Then I could live off of the rental income. ... ( more)

Yup, I lost my self-control. I went to the grocery store with a big long list and only bought 3/4 of the items but my bill was still $135. That's way above the $20-$30 that I could have spend on just necessities. I used the 'stocking up' excuse to rationalize my extra purchases. For example: I wanted cashews. They are very expensive in those tiny little cans so I bought the giant bucket for $10. I'll be eating cashews for quite a while. Soda was buy 2 cases get one free so of course I HAD to buy 3. I ... I made it to the end of the week without grocery shopping! That was my goal. Now I have to make sure I don't over-spend tomorrow. I need to stick to my list and menu. I think I will buy deli meat and have salads and sandwiches next week. I also need milk, soda, juice and iced tea. I am totally out of liquid except diet pepsi and water. Maybe I will just sleep in tomorrow and skip breakfast, then I won't have to eat my toast with water.I was helped along this week because someone in the office brought ... ( more)
