When we go grocery shopping we don’t go empty handed. We have a list, our coupons and a plan. This weekend’s grocery shopping trip is an excellent example of what our bill looks like. This is for two people and we are not starting from scratch as we have things in the freezer / pantry [...] ... ( more)

This weekend I was flipping through an old Money Magazine from November of 2007. We usually use the library for books and reading material, to include magazines. Typically you can get recent copies as soon as they become a month old but occasionally I will pick up some older ones as well. The content really [...] ... ( more)

Yesterday I covered the first three ways in the “Six Simple Ways to Retire Rich”. Thanks to automatic 401(k) plans and one-stop investing options, saving for retirement is a cinch. Editor’s note: This article is adapted from Kiplinger’s Retirement Planning 2008 guide.
I promised to cover the last three ways today so here they [...] ... ( more)

So as you may have read previously in this space, Hers and I will be heading to Jamaica in less than two weeks for a much-needed vacation. Neither of us has been there before and we are very much looking forward to. In order to be able to relax more we decided to go the [...] ... ( more)

Today while surfing around the internet I came across an article called Six Simple Ways to Retire Rich.
Since everyone wants: One: To Retire Rich and two: For it to be Simple, I figured it was worth a read. While a few of the “Simple Ways” were no brainers to me I was surprised by a [...] ... ( more)

I am so excited about our upcoming vacation to Jamaica! Neither of us has been before so it will be a new experience for both of us. Originally the vacation was planned as our honeymoon but due to actual wedding date changes which seem to be never ending right now we are taking the trip [...] ... ( more)

Well, I will start by apologizing for our lack of posts for the past
week. It’s not that we were extra-ordinarily busy or anything, we just
got busy with other “stuff”. If you remember in an earlier post we
discontinued our gym membership since HIS can use the gym at work for
free, I now walk to work (2 [...] ... ( more)

So in our lovely new apartment I finally have a room to myself to call an office. It’s actually our second bedroom which is quite spacious. We also have an office area which is a smaller alcove which HIS uses an office. I decided I would like a tv for my office space in hopes [...] ... ( more)

So, in recent posts I have eluded to the fact that we just moved into a new apartment. Our lease was up on our old apartment and it just really didn’t seem to have enough redeeming qualities to keep us there, let alone the fact that they wanted to jack our rent up. We were [...] ... ( more)

Our cell phone bill is out of control!
There I said it. With four lines currently on our plan, one of which is a blackberry and another an iPhone I’m sure you can understand how it can quickly sky rocket. Our plan currently has 1400 anytime minutes (we are on At&T/Cingular) which after reviewing the last [...] ... ( more)

Well as of last Friday I no longer commute to work via car. Previously I have about a 15 minute commute to my office where my employer paid my $60/month parking fee. It really didn’t eat up THAT much gas but still resulting in a $75/month petrol bill. With the recent increase in gas prices [...] ... ( more)

As you had read before, we had set up a Smartypig account recently. I like the idea of it. I think the extra money from retail stores is really great for when you already have a specific item already in mind. However, if you change your mind or an emergency comes up, then you are [...] ... ( more)

Everyone in the personal finance blogosphere has a budget or has written about budgeting many times so I’m sure this isn’t a new concept to anyone reading this. For us here at HisHersMoney this is the first time we are working on a joint budget.
This is really just our first cut at things and I’m [...] ... ( more)

This week we made a huge runs to the warehouse club, Costco is our favorite but we went to BJs this time (free guest pass), and stocked up on a household items and food items that we needed. BJs is great becuase you can combine the club discounts, club coupons and manufacturers coupons.
When I say [...] ... ( more)

After reading a couple articles about Crissy Thompson, the Coupon Queen I can honestly saw that I am in awe. This woman spends like $10 on a week’s worth of groceries for her family of five, not one but five. It seems that I can’t even get by with $10 a day for the two [...] ... ( more)

Well, the remaining balance was only $311 but it felt so good when I made the last payment online today it felt so good. I had the payments set up to debit out of my checking account automatically each month which made it really easy to avoid any late payments or missed payments. Unfortunately having [...] ... ( more)

Like so many other people now I have received my stimulus check. Unlike Hers, I apparently don’t make too much money in the eyes of the government and got the full $600. Also unlike Hers, I plan on actually going out and using that money to have some fun!
You see, I have another large financial [...] ... ( more)

So I received my direct deposit “stimulus” check this week. It was a big whopping $296. Let me tell you, I wasn’t overly stimulated when it arrived. Yes, it is certainly better than nothing but really what am I going to do with $296? I guess I could buy five weeks of groceries, or maybe [...] ... ( more)

It’s better late than never and so I present to you my updated net worth for April courtesy of both NetworthIQ and Zoho.
As you can see, things are going well in terms of paying down the debt. That’s my biggest goal right now and then I’ll really step things up in terms of savings [...] ... ( more)

Well I just finished upgrading our Wordpress install to version 2.5.1, which appears to mostly be a security update along with a few performance and admin enhancements. It went about 99% smoothly. For now, the cforms plugin that we use on our contact page was throwing out errors and not allowing us to get to [...] ... ( more)

I (HERS) unfortunately have to find a new financial advisor. I have been with the same guy since 2002 and I have really enjoyed working with him. Unfortunately he has received a promotion up to a leadership position within his company and won’t be directly working with clients any more. Great for him, not so [...] ... ( more)

I (HERS) am usually the non-spender in the relationship. I don’t surf around the internet and buy “things”, I don’t troll the malls and I’m certainly not one to hang out at Best Buy. Lately though, I have had a number of things pop up that have really started to add up.
*Hair “Stuff”: Shampoo, conditioner, [...] ... ( more)
