I don't know about you, but I love window blinds. I would rather window blinds instead of curtains any day. That is something some of my ex-girlfriends didn't agree with me on. So over the last nine years I have had my home and windows in particular feminized more. To be honest, I like it and thankful to Pam for introducing the curtains to my blinds. However, while they effective the blinds are cheap blah things from a discount store. I wonder if my windows wouldn't look better if I ... ( more)

One of things I would like to do as I fix up my home is to have lights on the handrails and steps. Having such lights, would help illuminate them at night without providing more light then is really needed. Or perhaps string the around the garden. No matter what your landscape lighting desires, rope lights are the perfect option. There are so many ideas, many of which may only be lurking in your head. Of course they are perfect for Christmas lighting to, but they have so many applications for ... ( more)

One of the places I think would be neat to visit is Thailand. Guess what the best time to visit Thailand is right now, between November and February. This is the best time to visit the beaches of this little country. The rainy (monsoon) season (July-November) is over. If you are like me however, the sights are more your style. As such, I would be more interested in visiting the Ancient City, south of Bangkok, which is billed as the largest open-air museum in the world. Then there is the Ao Phang-Nga National ... ( more)

Are you one of my British readers? I know, that I have readers from around the world that stop in and check out the blog on a regular basis. Which is good thing. I have readers that believe 100% like I do that we should save up and pay cash for the next car. I wish, I had done that in the past. Still others believe in getting car loans.Car finance is the typical way many of car buyers purchase their new or used cars. The process is pretty typical. ... ( more)

I recently finished reading, "You're Broke Because You Want to Be: How to Stop Getting By and Start Getting Ahead," a new book by Larry Winget. Winget, whose other books include "It's Called Work For A Reason," and "Shut Up, Stop Whining & Get A Life." He is probably best known as the star of A & E's "Big Spender. Winget is sometimes called the the pitbull of personal development, for his harsh, abrasive, in-your-face style towards personal finance.Perhaps it is important to say, that in the introduction to his new book he makes a clarification ... I was recently asked about my own experiences with finance and credit. Like many I have had both good and bad experiences. If you can call any loan good. Listen, as much as I hate borrowing, if you get into bed with the devil, there are institutions that have better customer service and overall more pleasant to deal with. The credit union that currently handles my car loan is great to deal with. That Credit Union also has my checking account. I allow them to automatically withdraw $100/week out of my checking, ... I have been reading recently about how clutter is a sign of what your personal finances are like. Larry Winget says that when he see people on those "clean up my place," TV shows, that can't get through a room, except for a small trail. He can bet that their finances are horrible as well. Still others talk about feng shui (pronounced in English as "fung shway"). Something that when I hear or read it, the little voice inside me says, "New age crap." I mean I am a Christian and don't get into ... ( more)

I have been reading of late about how Congress is changing the rules for capital gains. However, it may not be for everyone and will only be in affect during the tax years of 2008, 2009 and 2010. According to Kiplingers and USA Today certain lower income stock holders will have 0% capital gains on the sale of their stocks. To be eligible for the 0% capital gains, the taxpayer can't make more then $32,550 if you are single or $65,100 if you are married filing jointly. This includes the sale of your stock. ... ( more)

Debbie Dragon is an editor for CreditorWeb.com, a site that provides visitors with advice and information they need to compare credit card offers. The opinions of Ms. Dragon are her own and not necessarily those of the owner of this blog.--------It's true that credit cards are the reason why many people find themselves in over their heads in debt. Often, it's not even the amount of money we charged on the card that causes the main problem- but when we don't pay the cards off in full each month, the balance that gets carried over from one month to the ... A few minutes ago, I received a call from an "Unknown" number on my cell phone. The person said that he was so and so with "Client services." Client services of what? He didn't say. He then said he was calling about the overdrafts at bank of America. At which point I said "client services?" He then asked me did you not know about these? For some time I have thought about giving my house a name. I know, I know, usually only wealthy people with big estates tend to do that. But why can't a broke middle class wage earner do the same thing? It's not like there is some law that says we can't. I would like to add a rot iron fence in front yard with a sign that proclaims this to be, "le maison du cygne." Which translated is French for "the house of the swan."Why house of the swan? After posting my financial resolutions for 2008 Dedicated made the suggestionCall the IRS, with your debt papers in hand. Your goal is to get the debt reduced or eliminated. In my experience, I have seen the IRS eliminate, completely, debts with higher income than yours. I do not believe you earn enough - at your debt level to repay this debt.If you would rather not call. Write a letter to the address on the notice, include a copy of the notice, divulge all your financial information (income and debts) and request that they give you debt forgiveness on this. The way ... As the new year comes upon us, it is time once again to consider one's New Years Resolutions, and to look back at the past year's. As a personal finance blogger, perhaps I should take a better look at my financial situation for 2008. Will I really be able to reach my goals or am I being overly optimistic? Our first stop is to see how I did with the resolutions that I made last year. Officially pay-off and eliminate the credit card.Since I still had charges being charged to this card for part of 2007, I didn't ... ( more)
