Being in debt to a tune of around $12,000 (currently) with an annual earnings of about $19,500 (2007), I was excited when a promoter contacted me and asked me to review, "How to Get Out of Debt," by Harrine Freeman.Reading her book, her story sounded a lot like my own, and for good reason. Freeman herself was once $19,000 in debt while earning $21,000 a year. However, she learned how to climb out of debt without filing for bankruptcy and shares her personal story and strategies that she's used for thousands of clients in her book, How ... ( more)

In the past 2-years I have read much about American consumption. The dreadful decline in our savings savings as we spend more then we earn. With each year, it seems to get worse. Is it any wonder, that our economy is beginning to collapse? You can support the economy for only so long, before over spending will fall in top of you. Look at from a personal angle. If you earn $30,000/year but spend $35,000/year, how long do you think you can do that, before you fall financially. Eventually, ... ( more)

I created a link page today. Every single site i was linked to yesterday, I am stilled linked to, but I now have a link page. The handful of sites that actually link back to me on their front page, are now the only Personal-finance sites that I link to on my front page. Just because a site was moved to my new link page, doesn't mean they don't link to me. Some of them link to me, but not on their front page. To get to the link page, ... ( more)

I am fighting with Amerifirst again this month. They had me on lower payments, through the month of February. Now I am back to regular payments. Payments are due on the 10th of each month. I have been sending them $20 a week ($80/month), but thy claim they have only received $60/month. What they are doing is, as I learned as I talked with the supervisor, is not counting the payment on Feb 22 or 29th as payment for the 3/10 due date. Instead they are applying it to ... ( more)

Back in 1996, I found a great satellite service. The service offered nothing but Christian programing back then. Since then they have offered some family friendly TV stations as well. Such stations as the Hallmark channel, the Hallmark Movie Channel and Fox News have joined the line up along with such stations as Cornerstone TV (from PA), the Liberty Channel (as in Liberty University in VA) and many other Christian TV stations from around the country not to mention all the Christian radio stations. Well because I was an early subscriber, I ... ( more)

On this day 2-years ago, I set down for the first time to write about personal finances. The idea was simple enough, John Cummuta's CD's suggested signing up for affiliate programs and create a website to place those links. However, in order to make affiliate programs work, I had to create a reason for people to actually visit and then return to the page. My idea, was that I would be the first to write about personal finance. Well guess what, I wasn't the first. However, I quickly joined a rank of 800+ other ... ( more)

I checked out the website of my former credit card company. What do you know? I was still able to log in and as of March 1st, when they last checked my credit report, my FICO went up to 688, from the previous month when the FICO was 669. If this keeps up, it will be above 700 once again, by the end of the year. Of course, that is only the TransUnion records.Plus, WAMU may not let me gain access after this month, nor check my report again either.---go ahead share ... ( more)

With spring here, it is once again time to give myself a haircut. You may remember, that last year, I bought my own hair clippers. Since then, I have been cutting my own hair, however, I let it grow over the winter, it was just to cold (in my opinion) to have a crew cut. Now that warmer weather has returned, so has the days of shaving my head. However, cutting my own hair is just the beginning of the week. This is the week I took my first (of 3) weeks ... ( more)

You may remember, a while back, I mentioned some erroneous information that was on my Experian credit report. Well this morning, I heard back from Experian. They have deleted the two pieces of erroneous information. No longer is the Florida address on my Experian report. Which is good, sine I have never lived anywhere in Florida and have never visited the city that was listed. In addition, they deleted a company that was reporting negative information, erroneously to my credit report. Now, it is time to turn my focus ... ( more)

Turn on the morning news programs and there are suggestions that a new great depression may be looming around the corner. The fear is a direct result of the events over at Bear Stearns this weekend. The world financial markets was working in overdrive through the weekend, till the amazing $2 a share deal of Bear Sterns from JP Morgan. You have many factors and loses are play here. First, is the 14,000 employees of Bear Sterns. I know first hand that many of the employees are beyond fearful. It's that time of the year again. Tax season. I am always anxious this week. I am suppose to get my K-1 by March 15, by law. This year that falls on a Saturday. Once I get my K-1 I can finally do my taxes. As someone, who always liked getting my taxes done and finished as soon as I could in January or early February, it drives me nuts, having to now wait until after march 15th. I was kind of excited though last night, I arrived home to see ... ( more)

I had another job interview today. I had submitted the resume for this job, via monster about a month ago. So, I was looking forward to this interview. The interview was set to be at 11 am. As is my habit, I arrived 10 minutes early. Problem, the manager had left for lunch, so I hung around in my car, going back inside at 11:05 and finally 11:30. The manager and I chatted for a few minutes about the job and then she said that she would be interviewing a number of ... ( more)

I talked to the new store manager this weekend and I let him know that I had gone to an interview the other day. Of course, he said he would hate to lose me, but he understood, especially when I told him that the starting salary was an additional $5,000-$10,000 per year. Of course, I would still have to pass the extensive background (criminal and credit) check. Not to mention, be the one that they choose out of all those that they interview. I also found a forgotten facebook account. It ... ( more)

I am sitting down this afternoon, to take sometime to read a book that I received last week. The book, by Harrine Freeman is "How to get out of Debt. The book claims to be able to help you to get an "A" credit rating for FREE. While it sounds like worshiping at the altar of the FICO score, it sounds like it is going to be an interesting read. This morning, had an interview with an potential employer thanks to CareerBuilder.com, then I stopped by work, to help the new manager get the schedule ... ( more)

Yesterday, Kate, posted a comment on one of my posts, in which she asked if my budget included cleaners and personal care items? To answer simply, no, because I make many of my own cleaning supplies. The personal care items, like cologne and such, since I don't use them much, I have enough to last me for at least 3-years. Meaning, I really only need to purchase bath soap and shampoo. Now, I said that I make my own cleaning supplies. Take a look at some of my recipes. Drain Cleaner 1/2 cup ... ( more)

I received an email today, one that turned out to be another Spam message. However, this one intrigued me. It was advertising Matthew Lesko. You know the guy who wears the crazy jackets with dollar signs or question marks all over it, advertising his books of how to get free money from the government. This time, his email was promoting getting out of credit card debt. Does your credit card debt haunt you at night? Matthew Lesko has spent 25 years helping people like you get FREE MONEY from the government, and now he ... ( more)

It's a few days late, but here is a look at my March 2008 budget plan. I am still hopeful of getting my another debt knocked out this month, but as I write my plan and figure in the setbacks (that I failed to plan for), it doesn't look realistic.I really need to start budgeting for the insurance, taxes and clothing that I know I will have to incur at some point every year. But the budget as it is currently planned is already $88 over budget. Perhaps I will squeak out a little overtime to ... ( more)

It's been a couple of days since I posted, so I thought I should write something. It has been slow, in that nothing much has been going on this week. Busy week at work again, although it has quited down some there. People are starting to dispel the rumors now and hopefully things will get back to normal again. Although, it is pretty much public knowledge that the stores may be sold, if they can find the "right" buyer. As I have been reading some of the other personal finance blogs, I ... ( more)

Do you like to loan money to people or organizations that have been sued, so they can pay for that litigation? Well, according to the blog ChrisPerruna.com that is exactly what you will be doing if you buy the forthcoming Visa IPO.Visa is hoping to break records and raise up to $19 billion from its initial public offering. The only question is whether they can pull it off in this jittery market. In a filing on Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the San Francisco-based credit-card company said it was planning to offer 406 million shares between $37 and $42 ... I went shopping tonight. Wasn't planning to buy anything or even shop at all. A friend and I were hanging at the mall. I used a coupon to get free nuggets at chick-fil-a and then we stopped in the store that I refer to as "The Communist Red Star," because of their logo. As I looked around at the expensive khaki's, knowing I needed some to replace the ones that have holes in them for work, I found a clearance rack. This clearance rack had khaki's marked down to $19.94. ... ( more)

I have learned of an online tool that benefits the identity thieves. Yet our nations law enforcement don't seem to be doing anything about it. Since 9/11, we think that security is tighter, and that online tools as this, would be shut down quickly. Since I have spoken out on consumer advocacy issues before, I can't continue to be quite about this website any longer. The website is called Fake Name Generator. Yesterday was a long (13-hour) busy day. Due to a mix up on the schedule, I went in early to cover the hours that we were short on. As a result, in addition to the 3-hours of overtime that I was scheduled for, I picked up an extra 5 hours. Since OT is not generally authorized in my company, I am getting all that they will let me. Next week, I expect to use that extra income to pay down my AmeriFirst debt. An extra $100 on my paycheck will be ... ( more)
