Recently my wife and I dined out a few times. While no particular meal was expensive, the aggregate of the three meals equaled 2 weeks worth of groceries. I didn’t think about it too much at the time. Everything changed with an e-mail my wife received on Sunday. In her words, [...] ... ( more)

I want to thank everyone for their votes for Performancing’s Best Money Blog. The competition was tough and two of those competitors have more readers than many cities. The voting came to a somewhat predictable conclusion with those two, The Simple Dollar and Get Rich Slowly taking the top two spots. I [...] ... ( more)

This past weekend my wife and I organized a bit of a date night. We saw No Country For Old Men. (Quick thought on it: Weird ending, without spoiling anything, it seemed to “yada yada” over what should have been the best part of the movie.) We also went to dinner [...] ... ( more)

HR Block sent me a link to a promotion that they are running. Specifically they are allowing you to ask a tax advisor questions for free through Jan 31st. I’m going to test them with a question that has puzzled few other tax advisors I’ve talked to in the past. It’s a [...] ... ( more)

The continuing television writer’s strike has greatly reduced the value of our cable television subscription. Yet there’s still just enough need for us to continue the subscription. The last month we’ve turned to renting movies via a DVD Play kiosk at our local Safeway. We love this option since it’s only a [...] ... ( more)

A couple of months ago, my wife and I were taking a trip. On the flight back home, my wife started reading The Nanny Diaries. For the next 5 hours, I was subjected to comments like, “Oh my, that’s so true… listen to this…” followed by snippet from the book.
For those [...] ... ( more)

Last weekend San Francisco encountered a huge storm. Prior to that, the news buzzed about how it was the worst storm in more than two years. It was difficult for me to take news of 6-9 inches of rain seriously. I grew up in Boston where there’s often a foot of snow [...] ... ( more)

Late last night, I found out that I had been nominated for a blogging award. If I were to pick an award to be nominated for, I would have definitely picked Performancing’s award for Best Business/Money Blog. Fortunately, that’s just the award I have been nominated for. Would you take 20 seconds [...] ... ( more)

In case you missed it, I wrote about my 2007 goals and how I did tackling them.
Without a job that pays me an hourly wage my goals for 2008 are quite complex. It would be unfair of me to set net worth goals as if I were still making a 6 figure salary. [...] ... ( more)

This news may be a little old to some, but it looks like Lending Club is trying to bring in more lenders. If you lend $5000 or more before the Super Bowl, they’ll deposit 5% in your account for you. (Okay it’s not really before the Super Bowl, you’ve got the whole day [...] ... ( more)

Happy New Year everyone! With the start of a new month, it’s time to review my alternative income progress.
Last month, I was excited about a new income stream. I found a friend who I could help (with minimal effort) and collect a nice fee. It pushed my alternative income over the $1800 [...] ... ( more)

I’d like to start a new once-a-month post. It won’t contain a lot (or any) personal finance. However, I feel it’s good to give thanks to those that make this blog possible.
Here are the top 12 blogs that sent the most traffic to Lazy Man and Money in December:
The Simple Dollar

For a variety of non-financial reasons, I like to read Men’s Health from cover to cover each month. Though it has a ton of advertising and is one of the few magazines where it’s impossible to get cheap, the content is usually well worth the cost. I’ve even found the articles about money [...] ... I’m living in a world of wonder where the Patriots are 16-0. The Lisa Olsen incident seems so far away. Last night, a person introduced himself to me (I was wearing my Patriots shirt) as Adam Vinatieri’s cousin. More than 12 hours later, I still don’t know how I was supposed to [...] ... ( more)

Like many football fans who grew up around Boston, I am a huge New England Patriots fan. Unless you’ve been living on Mars, you probably know that this Saturday night the Patriots are trying to become the first football team to finish the regular season with a perfect 16-0 record.

This past year Energi Gal and I finally tied the knot. As part of the process we decided to register at a number of places. We picked three stores:

You know how to take the [rental car] reservation, you just don’t know how to hold the reservation and that’s really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them. - Jerry Seinfeld

For those who celebrate Christmas, this is a special time of year. It’s been a slightly disappointing Christmas for me. I ordered a few of my wife’s gifts from Amazon.com. Despite having the order in by December 12th, Amazon had a mix-up and didn’t send the gifts on time. One of [...] ... ( more)
