Part of our efforts to save on heating oil and reduce the overall energy bill in the winter is use radiators in the evening so the temperature in the house can be kept low. Silicon Valley Blogger at The Digerati Life discussed the true cost of relocation. Well, besides money and stress, the true REASON to relocate must be considered to evaluate the true cost. 2007 was a great year for Chinese stocks. For investors who own Chinese stocks traded in the US (the ADRs), chances are good money were made last year. Even if you invest in exchange-traded funds (ETFs), the returns were also very impressive. For example, iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index (FXI) returned 58.7% in 2007, PowerShares [...] ... (more)

Though I have opened a number of brokerage accounts during that time period, Scottrade remains my primary broker holding most of our investable assets. Investors will soon be able to invest in Oakmark’s two international funds again. I received an email from Oakmark Fund yesterday which announces that two previously closed international funds, International Fund I (OAKIX) and International Small Cap Fund (OAKEX) will re-open to new investors on January 2, 2008. Both funds are managed by David Herro, who was named Morningstar’s 2006 Manager of The Year International. According to Morningstar, the reason for the re-opening of the two funds, which has been closed since 2003 and 2002, respectively, is “Herro’s strict value style caused both funds to struggle mightily relative to peers in 2007.” ... I usually don’t get Christmas gift. Not that I don’t want one, but nobody gives me, including my wife. We give each other gifts at anniversary as well as on birthdays, but not Christmas. This year, however, I did get a little Christmas gift, a Pocket Loox N100 portable GPS navigator. But it wasn’t from my wife. About two weeks ago, I got an email from TigerDirect at midnight with an ad of the Pocket Loox N100 on sale at $99. Though we have a GPS on our 2005 Odyssey, I always wanted one that I can carry with me, one ... (more)
